- User Guide

- This document is intended to give a brief overview of importing procedures for these software packages:
- Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, Avid Xpress and Media Composer, and Media 100.
-

- Adobe After Effects
- * It is advisable that the user familiarize themselves with After Effects' project settings before integrating new material.
-
- To import files into Adobe After Effects:
-
- 1. Launch After Effects.
-
- 2. Create a new project or open your existing project.
-
- 3. Pull down the "File" menu to "Import."
-
- 4. Choose one of the following options:
-

- Footage File
-
- Navigate to your desired clip using the dialog box.
-
- Highlight clip and click "Open". This option will import one clip and exit the dialog box.
-

- Footage Files
-
- Navigate to your first desired clip using the dialog box.
-
- Highlight clip and click "Open." This option will import one clip and return you to the same dialog box.
-
- Repeat until all desired clips have been imported, then click "Done."

- 5. Create a new composition using desired settings or open an existing composition.
-
- 6. Drag the imported clips into the timeline.

- Adobe Premiere
- * It is advisable that the user familiarize themselves with Premiere's project settings before integrating new material.

- To import clips into Adobe Premiere:
-
- 1. Launch Premiere.
-
- 2. Create a new project or open your existing project.
-
- 3. Pull down the "File" menu to "Import."
-
- 4. Choose one of the following options:
-

- File
-
- Navigate to your desired clip using the dialog box.
-
- Highlight clip and click "Import." This option will import one clip and exit the dialog box.

- Multiple
-
- Navigate to your first desired clip using the dialog box.
-
- Highlight clip and click "Import." This option will import one clip and return you to the same dialog box.
-
- Repeat until all desired clips have been imported then click "Done."

- Folder
-
- Navigate into the folder containing your desired clips and click the button that says "Select XXX".
- (XXX is the name of the folder containing your desired clips)

- To import more clips using this option, pull down the "File" menu to "Import" and choose "Folder" again.

- 5. Drag the imported clips into the timeline.

- Avid Xpress and Media Composer
- * It is advisable that the user familiarize themselves with Avid's project settings before integrating new material.
-
- To import clips into Avid Xpress or Media Composer:
-
- 1. Launch Avid.
-
- 2. Create a new project or open your existing project.
-
- 3. Open and highlight the bin for import or create a new bin and ensure this bin is highlighted.
-
- 4. Pull down the "File" menu to "Import" and click the button marked marked "Options."
-

- Set the following options:
-
- Aspect Ratio - choose "CCIR, non-square."
-
- File has - choose "RGB Graphics levels."
-

- 5. Click "Ok."
-
- 6. Set the "File Type" pop-up menu to "Graphic/Audio."
-
- 7. Choose the desired resolution from the pop-up menu.
-
- 8. Choose your desired clips:

- Single Clip
-
- Navigate to your desired clip in the dialog box.
-
- Highlight clip and click Add." This will select one clip according to the options chosen.

- Click "Done."
-

- Multiple Clips
-
- Navigate to your first desired clip using the dialog box.
-
- Highlight clip and click "Add."
-
- Navigate to additional clips, highlight them and click "Add."
-
- If you wish to add all the clips in a particular folder click "Add All."
-
- Click "Done."
-

- 9. Drag the imported clips into the timeline.

- Media 100
- * It is advisable that the user familiarize themselves with Media 100's project settings before integrating new material.
-
- To import clips into Media 100:
-
- 1. Launch Media 100.
-
- 2. Create a new project or open an existing project. If creating a new project, pull down "Edit" to "Hardware Settings."
- Set the "Standard" under the "Video" pulldown to desired settings.

- 3. Highlight the desired bin for import.
-
- 4. Pull down "File" to "Import."
-
- 5. Navigate to your desired clip using the dialog box.
-
- 6. Highlight clip. For multiple clips, shift-select on a Macintosh and control-select using Windows.

- 7. Under "Scale Image," choose "Fit to Video" or "Retain Size," depending on project settings.

- 8. Click "Import."
-
- 9. Drag the imported clips into the timeline.
